Digital Content Strategy Presentations
In an effort to teach Wake Forest campus web editors and content managers on best-practices as they relate to digital content strategies, members from the university’s digital strategy (UMC) and digital accessibility (IS) teams have partnered to provide resources that focus on various digital content topics.
Digital content strategy presentations are typically offered as live Zoom sessions during the academic year. Attendees will learn a variety of techniques to help them make their website content and online marketing strategies more effective and have greater impact for their users.
Upcoming and past presentations can be found below. All users who use our Siteimprove platform will automatically receive invitations to upcoming events once they are scheduled. How AI is Changing the Way We Think About Our Websites
AI
SEO
Content Strategy
It feels like AI-focused practices and tools are everywhere nowadays, and how we search for content and how it’s found is constantly changing. If you’re wondering how to increase the chances of your content appearing in search results where generative search engines are dominating how we learn and find information, you’re not alone. While it may feel overwhelming, don’t stress out. What we all need right now is a common place to get started from.
In this presentation, we’ll discuss the impact that AI tools and searches such as ChatGPT and Gemini are having on our content and what steps we should be taking to stay visible (and relevant) in a constantly changing digital landscape.
Talking points include:
- How generative search engines have created a “zero-click” search ecosystem that is becoming the norm on how users find information, the impact it has on how we search for content, and how this affects the visibility of our content
- Why AI may be responsible for the decline in page views and visits to your site
- The difference between SEO and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and why this is important
- Why human-written content is still important and how AI-content generating tools can help us with – and not replace – how we craft our messaging
- Why you should change the way you think about how you write your content for AI tools
- What content managers and digital professionals in other higher ed institutions are doing to address how AI is influencing their digital content strategies and Communities of Practice (CoP)

Improving Content Visibility in an AI-Driven World
AI
Content Strategy
How visible your site’s content is and how users engage with it should always be a top priority. The focus should be on creating content with clear messaging and substance.
As AI generative search tools become more popular and change how users find our content and engage with us, we not only need to keep in mind the familiar ways of producing content, but also make sure to find ways to stay relevant in a quickly evolving digital landscape by writing it in a way that matters to both users and machine learning technologies.
Talking points include:
- Content strategies you should still be practicing
- Tips on writing content that will help AI search engines find you
- The importance (and return of) real FAQs
- How to create faster loading, mobile friendly web pages
- The importance of human-written content over AI-generated content, and when you should be using AI tools
- Ways to collect feedback on your site from your users
This session is for anyone who is wondering if the content on their website is still relevant based on how users are looking for and finding information online these days, or for those of us who just want to create a better user experience for everyone who visits our website.

Is My Homepage Still Important?
Content Strategy
In the very first digital content strategy presentation (How to Make an Awesome Homepage) we discussed ways to provide content on your homepage that users will actually find helpful. Now, with AI-generative searches, a lot of our users are bypassing our homepages (and sometimes our website altogether) since they can find the information they’re looking for faster, elsewhere.
So that begs the question – is a website’s homepage still relevant – and what should I be thinking about putting on mine to make it useful for those who still rely on it?

Web Content Readability: It Matters a Great Deal (and Why You Should Care)
Content Strategy
Siteimprove
Web content readability is important because it directly impacts how easily users can understand and engage with information on a website, leading to better user experience, more goals being met, improved SEO, and a more positive perception of the Wake Forest brand. Even if you think your content is good, do you really know what age demographic will actually be able to read and understand it?
Heading Structure and Visual Style Alignment: Web Accessibility Foundations
Accessibility
Siteimprove
In this presentation you’ll learn about the importance of establishing good heading structure and why it makes your content clear for visual and non-visual engagement, and review some common missteps with headings that can make your pages more confusing for users.
We’ll go over tricks and tools in Siteimprove and WordPress that can help you make your heading structure effective, and look at some options you can try for visual variety.
Working in WordPress: Let’s Get Organized!
Content Strategy
Organizing content on your website involves structuring information into a logical hierarchy, including clear and scannable sections for different messages, and considering your audience’s needs to ensure easy navigation and quick access to relevant content.
Analyzing User Behavior: They’re Doing WHAT Now?!
Siteimprove
Analytics
Siteimprove analytics provides a treasure trove of data and information, including how users are actually engaging with content on your site. Let’s dive into the Behavior module, specifically looking at behavior maps (heat, scroll, and data maps), as well as Event Tracking, which measures how many times certain events occur, which pages on your website generate the most events (clicks/taps).
Presentation is Everything: How to Optimize Your Web Content
Content Strategy
In this presentation, we’ll discuss different ways to present your site navigation, page content, and site footer in order to foster a better overall user experience and encourages visitors to engage with the content on the site.
Writing for the Web
Content Strategy
Trying to find the right messaging strategy for the content on your site can be challenging. We ask ourselves:
What is considered best-practice when it comes to writing for the web?
What is the right balance to cater to those who just want to scan for information vs. those who are researchers and want as much information as possible?
While there is no one-size-fits-all solution, there are guidelines everyone should follow in order to create a cohesive, brand-aligned web presence.
Essential Web Accessibility & Siteimprove
